City of West Chicago Seeks Developer to Rehabilitate
Historic Structure within Redevelopment Project

The City of West Chicago is looking for a developer to restore the historic building at 151 W. Washington Street for commercial use within the West Washington Street Redevelopment Project.

West Chicago, Illinois: December 29, 2011 - The City of West Chicago, Illinois is seeking a qualified developer to rehabilitate a historic structure for retail, restaurant, office or cultural uses that is situated within the West Washington Street Redevelopment Project area.

The property is located at 151 W. Washington Street and is known as the Joel Wiant House. It was constructed circa 1869. It is a contributing structure within the locally designated Turner Junction Historic District and is listed on two state-wide historical surveys.

Rehabilitation of this property should result in a building that can accommodate viable commercial uses within the larger Redevelopment Project while preserving those portions or features that convey its historical, cultural and architectural value. A mandatory walk through of the building for any interested developers is scheduled for January 13 and 18, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Request for qualification submittals are due by January 30, 2012.

The City has acquired approximately 14 acres on the west side of downtown West Chicago. The Redevelopment Project area will include a new City Hall, new buildings for retail and office uses, and off-street parking. In addition, the West Chicago Park District is contemplating a community center within the Redevelopment Project area.

Additional information regarding the property and the rehabilitation project requirements may be found here. Inquiries may be addressed to Robert Hupp, Interim Director of Community Development at bhupp@westchicago.org or (630) 293-2200 ext. 131.
